IMPORTANCE OF SAVING WATER!

17 August 23

In Spain, we are currently on the 4th heatwave this summer, experiencing temperatures reaching the mid 40´s. Spain´s lakes, rivers, and reservoirs are down to minimum capacity. The water reserve continues to drop and stands at 40% of its capacity with 24,329 cubic hectometres, decreasing every week. We need to become more aware of the small actions we can take in our day-to-day life to help save water. This way we can help nature and guarantee there is enough water for all of us including wild animals that just like us need water to survive.

In this blog, we would like to give you some ideas to save water in your daily tasks.

  1. Switch to Shower. Turn the tap off while washing your hair or body then turn it on to rinse off.
  2. Keep sprinklers off. Try other ways to water your garden, invest in a water gutt that collects the water throughout the year or use cooking water, the plants will benefit from the extra nutrients.
  3. Turn off the tap. Running taps waste as much as 6 litres of water a minute. So, remember to turn off the tap when you're brushing your teeth, or try filling a bowl of water when rinsing vegetables or fruit to keep your veg clean or when doing your washing up will save a huge amount of water in comparison to washing everything under the tap.
  4. Fill the dishwasher.
  5. Use leftover cooking water, as mentioned earlier to water your plants.
  6. Fix leaks. Fixing a leaky loo is surprisingly easy and there are lots of how-to videos online.
  7. Fit low-flow aerators to your taps and showers.
  8. Don´t use the toilet as a rubbish bin.
  9. Try to use less water while cooking.
  10. Don´t install temporary pools in your garden.
